The Bears have been excited for this school year to begin and to have such a fun group of sweet kiddos. With lower numbers, we have been having a blast spending so much individualized time with each child and having the opportunity to get to know new parents and families. The Bears have been exploring the classroom, making new friends, land becoming comfortable with the routines, therapies, and their teachers. We’re so impressed by how well everybody (parents included!) has been transitioning into their very new and unfamiliar school day. The classroom has been filled with laughter, music, and giggles with lots of playing and learning.
We started the school year with an Apple Theme to allow the kids to explore an item that was already familiar to them. The Bears were reaching and picking apples from our trees, "bobbing for apples" and making "apple soup" in our sensory table, and making pictures with sliced apples and paint! The kids loved chasing our "apple balls" around the classroom and putting them back in their buckets and stacking our red sensory balloons. To wrap up three weeks of the theme, the Bears were able to help cook some homemade cinnamon apples by scooping, pouring, and, of course, eating their delicious treat. We heard so many new words and kids practicing a variety of skills that were social, language, and motor-related. Tristen and I could tell that the kids were really enjoying the variety of projects, sensory activities, and fun that came along with exploring apples, so we will be continuing to bring that lesson diversity into future themes.
The Bears have already had some big achievements and we’re so excited to witness their progress and continue to share in their excitement throughout the year!
